The Luxurious Faux Furs is an enigmatic rock n' roll duo from New Orleans, Louisiana.

They are loved, distrusted, idolized, ignored, intrigued, and ridiculed for their conceptual union of almost European glamour with swampy rock n' roll.

Since their founding in 2011 (supposedly in New York City), Luxurious Faux Furs have stripped their vision of garage rock to its core. Across two LPs and several seven-inch records, Jessica-Melain (drums) and Josh Lee Hooker (guitar) approach their music with the howling, elemental minimalism of the Gories and Mississippi Fred McDowell. However, they also embody the opulent absurdity of 1970s glam rock (à la Cockney Rebel), with lengthy songs, backing vocals with plenty of "ooh ooh," and expressionistic vocals. Their records have been released by labels in Western Europe, South America, and Memphis, Tennessee.

On their new LP, LIKE A REAL SHADOW (Mandinga Records), the duo maintains their garage rock edge and delves even deeper into hypnotic blues riffs and the insistent, pulsating pulse of the drums—what one listener called a "car with a square wheel" rhythm. The choice of covers—obscure blues and sacred numbers—shows that they are distancing themselves even further from anything resembling "listener expectations."
